Apple Event

Since Apple’s big media event was today I figured I might as well throw my two cents in on what I thought of it all. First off I’ll just say that I’m not a big fan of all the iPod media events. I know the iPod/iPhone is Apple’s big money maker now, but I guess I’m just old school and I want to see more happen with the Mac line. I was happy with just having a monochrome screen and music for the iPod. Anyway that being said I’ll talk about what I thought of today’s event. I won’t go into a lot of detail, you can always go to MacRumors or somewhere for the full scoop. I think the biggest thing I like that came out of the event was NBC returning to the iTunes store, now I can have The Office automatically downloaded and copied over to my AppleTV to watch without commercials, instead of waiting for a torrent to download and then copying it over, or recording it myself with my EyeTV Hybrid and then having to deal with commercials and exporting it for the AppleTV. It’s also nice that shows come in HD (SD is still available too), sometimes it’s hard to watch an SD show on a big HD TV.

The new iTunes 8 seems pretty cool too, Genius Playlist seems interesting. I mean the new iTunes version and the new iPod’s are pretty much just what we expected from Kevin Rose’s rumors, so it’s not too shocking. I don’t know if I really like the new design of the Nanos, but the 24 hour battery life seems cool. Apparently you can just shake the Nano to shuffle, which seems pretty neat. Also, it seems they dropped the 160GB and 80GB Classic iPod and replaced them with just a 120GB. I don’t care about that too much since I’m probably not going to get a new iPod anytime soon, but my music library is pretty big and I always liked the idea of the 160GB. I just liked watching the size of the Classic get bigger and bigger.

There’s also new iPod Touches, they’re thinner, stainless steel, with volume controls, speaker, and genius playlist. they have 36 hours of battery for music playback which is pretty hot, only 6 hours for video though. They have a Nike+iPod receiver built in, too. Which all that means is the my current Touch seems more outdated (I still love it though). There’s software updates for the Touch and iPhone too, which is supposed to solve a lot of problems, especially on the iPhone.   All in all there wasn’t anything announced that was super unexpected. Maybe they’ll have new Macs in January. :)

Update

I figured it was time to update this site, since it’s been over a year since my last post. I’ve been using my Tumblr site for awhile (reidgober.com), but I figured it would be nice to have a place for longer text posts and I could just link to them on Tumblr. I’ll make this more of a personal blog and leave my Tumblr for all the links, videos, pictures, ect. I want to share. Hopefully I can keep this site updated often enough. I always liked reading people’s blogs when they actually had something worthwhile to post, I’ll try to make that the case here. Anyway, stayed tuned and I will post more very soon.

Awesome! A must watch

So I watched the new documentary Good Copy Bad Copy. All I can say is you need to watch it. You can get it from their site here as a download (bittorrent). That or you can see it here:

So today is July 17th, the same day that is on the default iCal icon. When you launch iCal today the icon won’t change.

But seriously if that was all I was gonna post it would be a pretty lame entry. So in other news I just got back from a week in Texas. I went down for a my grandfather’s funeral, which was upsetting but not totally unexpected, he’d been in pretty bad health lately. The whole funeral service got me thinking about a lot of stuff that I might have to make another post for later, basically all the talk of mortality and life and things in relation to that. Anyway, the funeral service was good, I didn’t’ really know all the people there, but that’s okay I guess. It just made it a little weird to have people come up to me and say hello and me not know who the heck they were.

In other news I bought a 22″ Acer AL2223Wd Black-Silver LCD. I wanted to have a bigger display for use at my desk with different things, plus it was a good price. It’s 1680 x 1050 resolution, has a bright 300 candela per square meter with 800:1 contrast ratio, and a fast 5ms screen latency. It uses only 44 watts while running and a very miserly 0.8 watts in standby mode. It also has two 1.5 watt speakers built in (which I may or may not use). I thought it was pretty cool that it can be viewed either horizontal or vertical, so I can turn it vertical and view an entire website, like digg, without having to scroll down the page. I think I’ll end up really liking it. Right now it’s till shipping but I should have it by Thursday.

Also to add more news about me to the site, I’ve been adding a lot of music to my iTunes library lately. I’ve been trying to branch out and listen to more than just my one 87 song playlist. It’s not really different music so much as it’s other artist within the same genres and other very similar ones. Anyone that has looked at my last.fm profile would find out that I’ve been pretty predictable in what I listen to lately. I figured I like a lot of different stuff (I have about 11,325 songs in iTunes) so I need to listen to it, otherwise what the point of having it.

And finally as some people may or may not know I purchased a Wii a little under a month ago. I’ve been enjoying that. I know I haven’t blogged about it though (at least not that I remember). It’s pretty nice, I got Tiger Woods PGA Tour for it but I actually think Wii golf off the Wii Sports disc that came with the system is more fun. I also got Mario Party 8 which is fun. I think I may have to check out Wii Fit when it come out though, it seems like it would be fun and help me get off the couch more, lol.

Currently listening to: New Monkey By Elliott Smith from Moon

Jessie made me a widget. She’s so nice. Now I can look at my blog via dashboard. I’ll upload it here so everyone can use it, I figure Jessie won’t mind if I share her wonderful work. I’ll try and post more in the next few weeks so there’s something to see too. That’s all the news I have now though.

iPod

So I got a new iPod today. It’s an 80GB white one. I love it. I needed something that could hold all my music with room to spare. The video is a plus, but not that big a deal. I really like it, my 20GB was getting too small and annoying not having the songs I want on it. This one is great, although kinda pricey. It should last me awhile though.

I’m still here!

So I haven’t posted in awhile, I know. I’ve just been busy with school and work and stuff like that. I’m still alive though. I’ll try to post more often. I don’t really have any news to report right now though, but keep checking back I guarantee something will happen.

So as some of you probably know I spent last week in Arizona with Jessie. It was awesome and we did a lot of really fun stuff. I got to cook for her, watch movies go out eat, we even went to a spring training game. I t was amazing. Now I’m at home just try to rest for a day or so before I have to get back in the swing of things with school and work. I suppose I don’t have to much other news, I’m try Ecto for posting to my blog for the first time, I like it so far, that’s f it actually posts this entry or not lol.
